Mara Shaw Warrington, faculty at the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government, was recently inducted into the Georgia Municipal Government Hall of Fame.

The hall of fame recognizes city officials who have made extraordinary contributions to the cities they serve and have demonstrated strong support for GMA. Warrington’s career covers decades in public service, including 17 years in local government in Valdosta.

In 2013, Warrington joined the Institute of Government faculty, and in 2020 she became its associate director for Governmental Training, Education, and Development. In this role, she oversaw training curriculum, delivery, and evaluation for more than 5,000 local and state government officials and was honored with the Walter Barnard Hill Award for Distinguished Achievement in Public Service and Outreach at UGA.

Warrington retired from full-time employment with the university in December and now helps coordinate strategic initiatives on behalf of the Institute of Government.

“Mara’s career stands as a model of dedication and mentorship,” said Larry Hanson, GMA CEO and executive director. “Her leadership has strengthened cities across Georgia and inspired a generation of municipal officials. We are proud to honor her remarkable legacy.”
