School System Operations Personnel Certificate Program

This certificate program is designed for K-12 school system operations personnel who are responsible for the day-to-day operations of school system facilities, planning and maintenance, transportation, school nutrition, safety and security, and technology infrastructure.

As part of the program, participants must complete a school system operations project to demonstrate application of topics learned in the program through development of a proposal identifying a potential need or process improvement.


Program Curriculum

The program curriculum includes:

  • school district core mission and governance structure,
  • planning mindset and implementation,
  • ethics and organizational integrity,
  • leading and impacting change, and
  • management functions in the areas of human resources, finance, risk and school environment.

Program Overview

To earn a School System Operations Personnel Certificate, participants must complete 45 program hours through a variety of instructional activities covering the program’s core curriculum.

Assessments

  • Pre and post learning assessments.
  • Communication styles inventory.
  • Self-awareness tool that measures seven thinking and behavioral preferences in an easy-to-understand report, delivers applications for individuals, managers and teams, and promotes cognitive diversity and
    inclusion.

Class Size

The program consists of a cohort of 24-30 participants.

Instructional Delivery

The program will offer face-to-face, in-person learning experiences.

Recognition

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of achievement issued by the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government. It is recommended graduates be recognized by their superintendent and board of education at a school board meeting.

Cost

The cost of the program is $1,175 per person. This includes the self-assessment profile, communications styles inventory, all materials and certificate.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, new and veteran school operations personnel will be able to:

  • increase awareness of the district’s core mission and the role school operations plays as a responsive and efficient collaborative unit of the organization.
  • recognize the governance leadership structure of the school system, including the leadership team of the superintendent and board of education.
  • demonstrate the strategic elements of a planning mindset and project implementation.
  • recognize the essential role of key management functions in human resources, finance, risk and school environment.
  • raise ethical awareness by applying moral reasoning and resolution principles to ethical dilemmas and decisions.
  • acknowledge that leading and impacting change are integral stages of development for any organization.
  • be aware of how individual thinking and behavioral preferences advance professional relationships and collaboration.
